The first outing for our 1965 Porsche 911 2-litre SWB in 2018 will be the Ronnie Hoare Trophy at Goodwood this weekend.
Part of the 76th Goodwood Members’ Meeting (MM76), our SWB is one of just a handful of pre-66 911s taking part in Goodwood’s invitation-only season opener.
The most recent event for our SWB Porsche 911 race car was at Spa, where we retired with alternator failure. That’s since been repaired and we’ve given the car a wash, but that’s about it for preparation. While others have been clocking up the testing miles on new and refurbed 911s ahead of Goodwood and the 2L Cup, we will essentially be racing a car that is unchanged from last year.
That said, this is a completely different car from the machine which did so well in the 2015 Aldington Trophy: our last race at Goodwood. We have since carried out developments right across the board, including evolutions to the engine, exhaust, suspension and tyres. As our results to date show, this is now a very competitive 911, so we’re looking forward to a good weekend of racing in the salubrious surroundings of the 76th Members’ Meeting.
