EB Motorsport enjoyed a great weekend of motorsport in the 2014 Silverstone Classic. We took two Porsche 911s to the event – our 3.0 RS and RSR race cars – and raced in FIA World Sportscar Masters.
Temperatures were high all weekend, with paddock temps approaching thirty degrees and track temperatures of over forty. This made it hot work on track, but both Mark and James took to the conditions enthusiastically and set out to enjoy their racing.
Qualifying went well. Mark took pole in Pescarolo class with a time faster than his 2013 best. James was also up on last year, and qualified P3, behind the Corvette.
The race was held in sunny conditions at the end of Saturday afternoon. A full hour of flat-out racing in a large field of very fast cars was a true test of stamina and concentration. The effort was too much for Mark’s steering wheel, which snapped on lap four.
The wheel was taped it up in the pit stop, which cost us some time, but Mark managed to retain his first place start position and take another class win, with a fastest lap of 2:24.106: a full second quicker than last year’s race best of 2:25.191.
James also enjoyed a great race. “Brilliant, one of my best,” he said afterwards.”The car just got quicker and quicker, I kept in touch with the Corvette, and beat the Ferrari and the other Porsche. It was unbearably hot in the car, but the racing was really terrific. Next stop Nurburgring!”
